The Awe and Wonder series was initially inspired by a trip to Norwich cathederal. I loved the sense of age in medieaval monastic buildings. I was constantly awed by the skill of stone masons which enabled them to build monumental structures that still survive today. I was particularly drawn to the structural lines and and how they had been adorned with pattern and decorative carvings. I saw how styles changed over the centuries and how these styles clashed and interacted. The dusty crevices and alcoves reflect a past way of life.
After taking lots of photographs I began the design process, drawing printing and in this particular case collaging. This collage was photographed and became the focus for the following body of work which resulted in a range of quilted pieces.
